Picture Day!

Today was picture day for Edison. I schedule their yearly pictures, as well as routine doctor visits, around their birthdays. Edison is now eight years old and we needed a picture on the wall to commemorate this fact.

This morning he did his chores, ate his breakfast and then went into the bathroom to get ready for his shower. He was in there a long time. I finally checked on him. He was shaving. With my pink daisy razor. He wasn't having much luck either. He had nicked himself a few times on the chin and had given himself a little case of razor burn under his mouth. Oh, and he had cut his hair. Himself. In the front. So now he had stubble on his forehead and on his chin. Of course, today was picture day.

I attempted to rectify the situation with a quick ten minute haircut which I gave him, and a lot of hair gel. Not perfect, but passable. Why not reschedule? Because something (catastrophic) always happens on picture day, and the way I see it, this year we got off easy.

A friend of mine proudly displays a four-generations family picture in which her daughter had just gotten stitches in her face the very day it was taken!

She says it took way too long to fit the photographer into everyone's schedules, and besides, aren't pictures supposed to capture reality?

I'm glad you were able to "cover" his home haircut. Good job, mom!
