A Moment

My children are visiting Narnia at this very moment, so I thought I'd write a little something. Though, if I remember the laws of time in Narnia I suppose they could be back very soon. This visit was hard won. They tried to get there yesterday morning after St. George looked up 'wardrobe' and yelled, "Hey Mom! A wardrobe is sort of like a closet! We have closets!"

They started in Rose's closet. A good choice, as it is warmer and cozier than the boys' closet. They waited and waited, but didn't go anywhere. Finally, it was decided that Rose's closet was not a conduit to Narnia.

They tried the boys' closet.

Two hours later they consulted me, "We have been trying and trying, but when we get in the closet we stay in the closet and haven't gotten to Narnia yet."

"I didn't think you could get there by trying. In fact, I am pretty sure the book said if you tried you wouldn't get there."

"Oh, yeah . . ."

And so, after much discussion, rereading of sections of Lewis's The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and some planning, it was decided that they would dress up in adventure clothes, pack a snack and sit in the closet and try very hard to not try to get there at all.

So they dressed. I convinced Rose that yogurt would not make good adventuring food since they might meet a creature Most Surprising and if she were to accidentally drip yogurt on it, well, the diplomacy could get tricky. Somehow, they didn't try very hard and they made it. When they got back they were very excited, and St. George had a bit of attic insulation in his hair. Edison claimed that in Narnia he is much shorter than he is here (I am unclear on the benefits and desirability of shortness in Narnia), and Rose says she is very blonde in Narnia (which I have often suspected).

And so they've gone again, but I'm sure they'll be back in a moment.
