Guess what? Roses don't bloom in April. My own dormant roses should have been a clue, but no, I had to travel 1 hour and 15 minutes away to the Heirloom Rose Gardens to make this momentous discovery. In fact, not only were the roses not in bloom, they had been pruned back almost to the ground.
The trip was not completely in vain, we came home with a trunk full of baby plantlets and an overwhelming desire to dig holes.

Well, at least it wasn't a total waste.
My roses are just starting to look a little bit alive. I'm glad to hear that's normal.
