The Deal

Todd got a good deal today. A spur of the moment deal. A guy in town sold him a basketball hoop for just $7.50! Nevermind that we live on a farm with no concrete pad. Nevermind that basketballs aren't so very bouncey on grass. A basketball hoop for $7.50 is a deal no red-blooded male could refuse.

He drove up with The Deal in the back of his truck. He untied it and then we looked at it for half an hour trying to figure out how we were going to get it onto the ground. Todd hooked some ramps onto the tailgate. Then he unhooked them. He brought over some boards. Then he put the boards aside. We stared at The Deal again for awhile. Then we traded places and stared at it some more.

Finally, he decided to roll the cement filled tire off the back and see what happened. The post broke off. So now The Deal was no longer in the truck. It was in pieces on the ground. We stared at it.

"The question is, where do we put it?" he asked.

"Really?" I asked incredulously, "that's the question?" Because it wasn't my question. I had lots of questions and that one wasn't on my list at all.

I came inside. He has spent an hour and a half with The Deal so I guess that it does have a sort of entertainment value. And after all, $7.50 is not a bad price for a good story.
