My Birthday

Yesterday was my birthday. I got to spend time with a dear friend and my sweet husband made me a cake and I snuggled with my children and canned twelve quarts of peaches. It was a wonderful birthday! But, my favorite present to date is still the one that Edison gave me three years ago when he was five.

I was tending the raspberry bushes when he came up behind me carrying an empty, shallow cardboard box. "Mommy, I got you this box for your birthday so that you can pick berries and make jam."

"Oh, thank you! What a great present! It will be a good tool to help me make jam for the people that I love."

A look of shock crossed his face, "You're going to make that much jam? You love so many people! What if they all come to pick up their jam? They might want to see my bedroom. It's kind of messy. I'd better go clean it!" He dropped the box and ran inside.

He gave me the gift of a cardboard box, the gift of affirmation, and the gift of a clean bedroom. I really hit the jackpot that year.
