Peas in a Pod

Today was, most definitely, the last day for peas this season. It's been over 90 degress and peas in pods can't take more than 85 degrees without drying out. My children like to eat them raw while standing in the garden. Sometimes they eat them while I am shelling them. The first year they did this, I kept asking them to stop eating the peas before dinner. Then I realized what I was saying and since then I try very hard to allow my children to eat as many vegetables as they are willing to consume.

This is my favorite way to cook the peas that have escaped little fingers:

Peas in Pods
Rinse 2 pounds whole unshelled peas. Throw into pot with 2 tablespoons water. Cover pot and cook over medium-high heat for 15 miuntes (stirring occasionally because they will burn if left alone). Serve. To eat pull pod through your teeth and the peas pop out into your mouth. Yummy and no shelling!
